Calling All Good Neighbors,

So curious that my last message was me astounded by the snow. At this point, I believe the Lord has skipped Spring altogether and popped us straight into Summer. Too many dandelions, not enough bikes on the road, lots of new neighbors looking to gather around BBQ grills ASAP.

It seems so long ago we had our Annual Board Meeting and much has happened. Most of us have paid our $200 Annual Dues, covering the cost for neighborhood maintenance and improvements. We have had so many wonderful new families move into our neighborhood.

We can see those improvements in the increased plantings in both entranceways, the fresh mulch hugging those flowers like an Old Spice Scented Grandfather would his Grandkids. We have the water spigots turned on at each entranceway to keep those flowers and shrubs green and growing. You may notice the brickwork at each entrance pressure washed, limestone scrubbed white like a Dutch Woman's habit.

This is a great neighborhood with 85 families living, working and playing together. So many children, parents and pets. Oh, the pets, the dogs, so many pooches abound all around. We love them as part of our family. The thing is, though, we need to keep after those dogs closely. We need to make sure we pick up da poop after our pets, including those who put the doggy do-do in plastic bags, rightly so, then leave those bags on their neighbor's yard...bad form.

We also have too many dogs off the leash or not fenced in. This is not what we want in Lantern Farms. Safety and security is above all the most important aspect of our lives, our families. I have had more than one neighbor come to me with concerns about their own family's comfort and safety around dogs that are not controlled or contained, not to mention the safety of the unleashed or unfenced dog. We must be more considerate of those around us, please.

With the warmer weather I plan to make my rounds, whether on bike or on foot, introduce myself to new neighbors and check in on those that have had trouble getting dues in on time. We all have had special circumstances. I want to do whatever I can to help.

That's what neighbors do, help and watch out for each other. Time to oil my bicycle chain, check out our new meat smoker, spray the dandelions, walk the dog....
